wolf gas range not lighting

Try This if Your Wolf Range Burner Won’t Ignite

Investing in a Wolf range means accessing some of the highest-quality cooking technology. But this commitment to quality doesn’t exclude frustrating situations, like if your Wolf range burner won’t ignite. We’ll discuss how power issues, lingering moisture, and accumulated debris can cause the problem. We’ll also provide some simple solutions, including proper cleaning techniques.

Wolf Range Burner Won’t Ignite? Here’s How to Troubleshoot the Problem

When a Wolf range burner won’t ignite, the most common reasons usually have straightforward solutions. Before you call for a repair, troubleshooting starts with some basic maintenance and safe cleaning tips.

Check for Power Issues

If your range won’t turn on, first check for power issues that can affect how electricity is delivered. Even though you have a gas stove, the igniters still require electricity to light the burners. Here’s how to assess for electrical issues that can result in a Wolf gas range not lighting:

  • Make sure the range is properly plugged into a functioning outlet.
  • Refrain from using an extension cord to power the range, as most cords can’t properly transmit the level of electricity the range requires.
  • Check your home’s circuit breaker or fuse box for tripped breakers or blown fuses. Reposition any tripped breakers or replace blown fuses.

If there are no visible power issues, it’s likely that the burner needs thorough cleaning to address recent spills or accumulated debris.

Check for Moisture in the Burner

As careful as we may be, cooking spills and splashes can leave residual moisture on the igniter, dampening its ability to light the burner. You may also find the range burner does not light if cleaning solutions were sprayed directly on the burner, soaking the igniter.

If you find your Wolf range not working after a cooking or cleaning session, give the igniter time to air dry. This should allow any lingering moisture to evaporate and enable the burner to light. If time is a factor, gently pat the igniter dry with a paper towel before allowing 5-10 minutes for it to air dry completely.

Clean Wolf Sealed Burners

Even though you may clean your cooktop after each use, dirt, debris, and food particles can build up around the burners, clogging their ports and the igniter. Eventually, your Wolf range burner won’t ignite because these clogs can block the flow of gas to the burner.

Just as there are specific steps to clean your Wolf range griddle, the range’s sealed burners require particular techniques to clean them safely. Here’s how to properly clean the burners:

  1. Make sure the burners are completely cool before cleaning.
  2. Dampen a soft cloth with water and mild dish detergent or a commercial degreaser. To avoid soaking the igniter, don’t spray any cleaning solution directly on the burner.
  3. Remove the burner rings and caps and wipe them down with the cloth.
  4. Rinse each component in warm, running water. Refrain from placing these components in the dishwasher, as the heat and hot water can destroy their enamel coating.
  5. Wipe dry with a clean towel, blowing out any lingering soap or solution from the burner caps’ holes.
  6. Gently scrub burner ports with a dry toothbrush, using a straightened paper clip to remove visible blockages.
  7. Reassemble the dry burner rings and caps and allow the entire burner assembly additional time to air dry (5-10 minutes).
