Our home appliances have become so integrated into our lives that the inevitable break down can become a big disruption to our daily routine. A large broken appliance, such as a range, refrigerator, or washing machine, can quickly put a dent in our quality of life.

Deciding whether to repair or replace an appliance, particularly when trying to discover which option will save money in the long run can be challenging. The most important factor to consider is the age of the appliance compared to its replacement cost. The general rule of thumb is that, if a repair will cost more than half the price of a new appliance and the closer it is to 10 years old, it may be time to consider a new one.

Should You Replace Or Repair Broken Appliances?

However, before you decide to spend your hard-earned money, here are a few tips to help you make an educated decision on the best option for you:

  • Washer Repair—Most repairs are economical, but when it comes to electronic components, it may be wise to get an estimate and weigh the cost against purchasing a new one.
  • Oven & Range Repair—Again, most repairs are economical. A faulty ignitor is a very common problem that will make it better to repair than replace your range.
  • Refrigerator Repair – Because your refrigerator is running nonstop, seven days a week, there are more opportunities for things to go wrong. High-end and built-in models are generally more expensive to replace.
  • Dishwasher Repair – In most cases, dishwashers can be easily repaired. The average life expectancy of a typical dishwasher is 9 to 10 years and 15 to 20 years on high-end units. Use the same rule of thumb of age to determine the replacement cost and whether it is better to have it repaired.

If you need help deciding whether to repair or replace your appliance, we are here to help. Our skilled technicians can diagnose your appliance and help you to make an informed decision.

It's important to perform routine maintenance on your appliances prior to the holiday season.

We recommend that you do the following to prep your appliances for colder temperatures:

  1. Clean inside oven
  2. Check oven temperature
  3. Check ventilation cover flaps for obstructions
  4. Clean refrigerator coils
  5. Clean dryer vents
  6. Prep for frozen water lines

A: Check to make sure the correct detergent was used. Dishwasher detergent does not foam but the detergent for hand washing does. Also, make sure that the door is completely closed and that there isn’t something loaded in a way to interfere with the gasket.

A: The model and serial numbers are located on the Model Number Tag. The location of the tag is different for each appliance, so use our Model Number Locator to find yours.

Yes, we can fix a KitchenAid appliance that isn't working. We repair a wide range of KitchenAid appliance failures on major appliances including refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges, ovens, washers, dryers, and more.

The self-clean cycle of your oven reaches very high temperatures and can act as a stress test, revealing components that are close to failing. Although it is unlike that you will have a problem, crunch time is not when you want to find out there is one. Cleaning several weeks prior to the occasion would allow time for service if needed.

*We recommend using a natural oven cleaner and a little elbow grease less than a month away from a holiday meal.

Did you know that dryer lint is the number one cause of home fires? This is because lint is very flammable and can easily ignite if it builds up in the wrong places.

To prevent lint-related fires and other issues, it’s important to clean your dryer and its lint trap and vent regularly. We recommend cleaning them every six to twelve months.
